The Sowbug Round up is three day fly tying and fly fishing show that is held in Mountain Home Arkansas. The next Sowbug round up will be held March 28th, 29th and 30th of 2019. This year is the 22nd year that the North Arkansas Fly Fishers ( NAFF) have put on the Sowbug Roundup.The first Sowbug had 20 Tyers and over 150 attendees. The 2018 Sowbug had over 100 tyers and over 1000 attendees.
The Sowbug is basically a fly tying show. The tiers come from alcove the USA and there are usually two or three from overseas. the show floor is set up to facilitate access to the fly tyers. Attendees are very much encouraged to sit and to talk about fly tying, fly fishing and how to tie a fly.
The full name of the show is Sowbug Roundup, A Celebration of Fly Fishing. One of the goals of The Sowbug is to encourage more people, especially your people to become involved inflow fishing. Every day we have free introductory fly tying classes. Free casting lessons are available everyday. The seminars ( included in the entrance fee) are chosen to appeal to fly fishers of every experience level. On Saturday we hold a free drawing for kids fly fishing gear.
Sowbug is not a vendor show but we do have nice selection of vendors selling fly fishing / fly tying products. The vendors come form all over the US.Some of the names you might recognize are Dave Whitlock, Davy Wotton, and Duane Hada.
The Sowbug Roundup is the North Arkansas Fly Fishers sole annual fund raising event. The income form the raffles and silent auctions allow NAFF to finance its environmental and philanthropic activities. NAFF allocates $10.000 every year for scholarships to students majoring in the fishery or environmentally field.
